Beyond: Sending

What if college student ministry is a call to make life-long disciples of all nations?

The call to send students into the world, the workplace, and whole-life discipleship to Jesus, is a call to join in God’s kingdom work.

What if young people were seen as “sent” to you when they start college life? What if you saw graduating students as missionaries to be sent onwards at the end of college? What if some of your students stayed and made your church home beyond their school years?

College student mission is about far more than the college years. It will bless your whole church and far beyond you into the world, when you discover the gift of giving, not just receiving, young adults.

Discussion Questions

For you and your team…

Can you think of examples of people being sent from your church well and fruitfully? What can you learn from these examples?

Where are there key transition moments that are not intentionally being addressed and stewarded at the moment? How can you bridge the gaps?

How would the idea of being a “sending church” not just a "receiving church” change your community's perspective and approach to loving, reaching and discipling college students?

Prayer Space

Take some time to pray together, listen to God and seek His wisdom and vision for this building block.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

– Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
